Emily is following her dreams and overcoming
obstacles. She will educate people regarding the many
accomplishments of people with disabilities.
Emily is an example of not giving up on her dreams.
Even though, Emily, at the age of 16, was
involved in a car accident, on
Valentine's Day 2001, which resulted in a spinal cord injury that left her a
quadriplegic; she pursued her
education. Graduating from West
Ottawa High School, Hope College and Western Michigan University with a Master
of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology.
Emily landed her dream job and is working as a speech pathologist at Mary
Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital treating pediatric and stroke patients.
Emily has learned to embrace the challenges in her life and will use
her new title as a way to encourage others.
Emily will be busy making scheduled appearances and is also available to
make appearances.
She will prepare
to compete for the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2011 in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, at the Amway Grand Hotel from August 9 - 15, 2010.
Emily's platform is
EMPOWERING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. She will be a spokeswoman
throughout Michigan where she can combine awareness, acceptance and
understanding of disabilities to the general public.
She will have the opportunity to travel across the state, visit advocacy
groups, make public appearances, including many parades and is available to
conduct interviews.
Emily was
nominated by Health Partners Homecare to compete for this prestigious title,
because of her unique spirit and determination
Emily Blauw originally of Holland, was crowned Ms
Wheelchair Michigan 2010 at the Wege Center Ballroom located on the campus of
Aquinas College on Saturday March 6th 2010. She became the titleholder after a
full day of competition which includede workshops, private interviews and a
platform speech.
